Central Market (Psah Thmei)

The Central market should be on everyones list of things to see in Phnom Penh, especially if you like shopping. You can buy absolutely everything in the Central market including clothes, souvenirs, electrical items, handicrafts, groceries and much more.

Independence Monument

The Independence monument is located on the crossroads of Sihanouk Boulevard and Norodom Boulevard, and was built in 1958 as a memorial to the soldiers killed in war.

Killing Fields of Cheoung Ek

The killing fields of Choeung Ek are located 15km outside of Phnom Penh, and these killing fields, were where the detainees of the Tuol Sleng prison were sent to be killed. Most of the people killed, were killed by been beaten to death with sticks ro bats to safe on the bullets. Some young children were actually swung from their legs against a tree until they were dead during this tragic time. The killing fields are open from 7am to 5pm and the admission is 2$ per person.

National Museum

The National Museum has a number of sculptures, and other exhibits from the past on display. The National Museum is open from 8am to 11.30am then re-opens at 2pm to 5.30pm except on Public holidays when it is closed. The Museum is located just behind the Royal Palace and the admission is 3$ per person.

O'Russei Market

Do not confuse this market with the Russian market. The O'Russei market is a huge building with stalls selling second hand clothes, health and beauty items and loads of other items.

Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda

The Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda in Phnom Penh are located on Sothearos Boulevard, not far from the river front and Sisowath Quay. Admission to the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda is 3$ per person.

Russian Market

The Russian market is another market that should be on everyones list of things to see in Phnom Penh. If you like shopping, then you will like it even more, although it is recommended that you go at the cooler times of the day as it gets very hot at the hottest times of the day.

Sorya Market

The Sorya Market is an aircon shopping mall with a variety of shops selling clothes, electrical items, phones, jewellery, health and beauty items, fast food and much more. The Sorya market is located not far from the Central market.

Tuol Sleng Museum or S-21

Tuol Sleng Museum or S-21 as many people know it by, was an old high school before it was changed into a torture prison by Pol Pot's regime. The prison held thousands of prisoners through the time it was used as a place to torture it's detainees, before they were eventually sent to the killing fields of Choeung Ek. Most of the people that were held and tortured were either educated, disobedient or because the khmer Rouge simply did not like them. When you walk around the museum you will see pictures of the prisoners alive, dead and after they had been tortured. The museum is open from 8am to 11.30am and 2pm to 5.30pm and the admission to the museum is 2$ per person.

Wat Ounalom

Wat Ounalom is the main headquarters of the Buddhism monks.

Wat Phnom

Wat Phnom is built on a hill, and is one of the nicest pagodas to visit in Phnom Penh. Admission to the pagoda is 1$ per person. Many Cambodians visit Wat Phnom to pray or wish for good luck.
