About Us

My name is Phil. I am English, married to Na, and we have two children, Michael and Naysa. I have lived in Siem Reap since January 2004, and I ran the Sydney Angkor Hotel in Wat Bo Road, in the centre of Siem Reap for nearly four years. My friend Harry, who has lived in Siem Reap since April 2005, use to run Phil and Harry's Ice Creams, the bright pink buses you will see driving around the Angkor Temples. We have been working on Siem Reap Rooms since September 2006, and we started working on Phnom Penh Rooms about 6 months later. We will soon be starting on another guide for Sihanoukville, now that we have finished the hotel and ice cream businesses to dedicate more time to our websites. We have both done quite a lot of travelling around Cambodia and South East Asia. Based on our own experiences, and through meeting many visitors every day in our work, we have gained a lot of knowledge about the region. People often ask us for advice, so we decided that it would be a good idea to share our knowledge on a website and make it available to people before they even arrive in Cambodia. We know from our own experiences, how much time it can take planning a trip, so we thought it would be great if there was a website about Phnom Penh full of local and, perhaps more importantly, up-to-date information.

Oh, I should also mention my brother Ian, who manages this website for me as well as Siem Reap Rooms. He currently lives in the UK, but he is a regular worldwide traveller and has also been to Siem Reap a few times himself.

Although Harry and I mainly work on the travel websites, we also have a local market project, which is partly business and partly for us to put something back into Cambodia, by helping improve the daily lives of many people who live in the area.
